Almería was this week mourning the loss of a 33-year-old football player after he collapsed and died during a match at the weekend.
José Angel Sánchez, who played for Español del Alquián, reputedly suffered a cardiac arrest as he was making his way to the dressing room at half time during a veterans’ game against local side C.D. Roquetas.
Medics gave Sr Sánchez CPR for almost an hour at the El Alquían ground but were unable to save him. Relatives of the stricken player who were at the match also needed medical attention after witnessing his collapse.
