Almería city’s mayor, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, is the fourth highest paid council head in Spain, earning more than €82,000 a year, according to the most recent government figures.
It has emerged that 34-year-old Fernández Pacheco, who took over as the head of the local authority in November 2015 for the conservative Partido Popular party, trails only the mayors of Madrid, Bilbao and Valencia as the highest earning council leader, pocketing a total of €82,402 before tax. He is also Andalucía’s top earner.
Under the Government’s transparency rules, all 8,123 councils are obliged to reveal gross and net earnings of mayors, including expenses and payments received for attending plenary meetings.
