Concerned Mojacar residents called for an environmental investigation after thousands of dead shrimps were washed up on a local beach last Friday.
The shrimp, later identified as krill –small crustaceans found in all the world’s oceans – were lying along the shoreline of Las Ventanicas beach along a 200-metre line, according to Equinac animal rescue association representative Alex Land.
They were originally spotted by a walker who posted the phenomenon on a local social media forum, after which both Equinac and the regional government environmental department visited the scene.
