The courts in Vera and Huércal Overa are on the verge of collapse, with magistrates struggling to cope amid a mounting backlog of cases, damp rooms and cockroach infestations, according to the regional parliament’s justice commission president, Marta Bosquet.
Ms Bosquet, who is also a member of the Ciudadanos (C’s) party, made the comments after visiting the courts on Tuesday (May 30).
She described conditions as “deplorable” and “unacceptable” after noting that there was a backlog of more than 1,000 civil cases in Vera alone (80 per cent more than the courts had been designed to deal with).
