The second phase of Mojacar’s new promenade from the Red Cross roundabout to Maui beach bar was approved in a council meeting yesterday amid cries of protest from objectors.
The €3-million promenade will pass directly through Mojacar’s most popular row of traditional beach bars, or chiringuitos, including Maui, El Patio, El Cid, Bahia and Aku Aku, cutting off their access to the beach and reducing their usable areas.
Many of the beach bar owners were present at the meeting, where opposition councillors Jessica Simpson from the Mojacar Se Mueve party and Manuel Zamora from the Socialist PSOE party attempted to defend their interests.
