A group of business leaders and academics from Almería met last week with the heads of the provincial council to present their bid for Tesla’s new European factory site.
The US electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer intends to ramp up production by 2018, and to meet the challenge Tesla CEO Elon Musk last year revealed ambitious plans to build three gigafactories in Europe, where lithium-ion batteries will be manufactured.
Diputación provincial council president Gabriel Amat who met with the 20 local business leaders heading the project said a factory in Almería would generate much wealth and many jobs.
