If the trend over the last decade continues, and I’ve no reason to believe it won’t, it’s likely that we will see, when the details are available, that there has been another year on year increase in the production of Spain’s wonderful sparkling wine.
The Cava Institute reported that the 2016 vintage brought about a 9% increase in production over the previous year, amounting to a total of a staggering 245,155,988 bottles of bubbly! We can reasonably expect that figure to have increased for 2017, and when one considers that approximately 50% of any year’s production is consumed during the Christmas period ā well that’s a huge amount, drunk over a matter of, what, about two weeks!
