COUNCIL workmen in Jávea worked against the clock to throw up a defensive wall and moat on the Arenal beach as storms hit the coast.
Driven by a north easterly wind and with waves reaching up to five metres, five diggers were employed to build the barrier on Monday morning to protect beach equipment and the businesses on the promenade.
