The regional government is stumping up cash to encourage shepherds to take livestock herds into strategic rural areas.
Sheep, goats, cattle and horses are all seen as being an important component in the fight against forest fires.
The livestock provide natural ‘cleaning’ of fire breaks, which have been created to prevent forest infernos.
