THE FORMER leader of Cataluña Carles Puigdemont has been detained in Germany.
Sr Puigdemont was crossing from Denmark on the way to Belgium, where he has been living in exile since last October’s banned referendum.
German police confirmed that he was arrested ‘on the motorway’.
A European arrest warrant was recently reactivated against him by the Supreme Court in Madrid.
Sr Puigdemont faces 30 years in prison in Spain if he is extradited and found guilty of charges of rebellion and sedition.
