A PETITION calling for the Junta de Andalucía and Tarifa town hall to stop the construction of a parking zone and chiringuito on a plot close to the famous Valdevaqueros beach has exploded, with a twelvefold increase in signatures in two weeks.

In mid-February the www.change.org petition entitled Salvemos Valdevaqueros, ¡Nuestro Paraiso Natural! had around 7,000 signatures of support, but by March 1 the figure exceeded 120,000. At the time of going to press, it has been signed 123,166 times. The campaign was started by Briton Harry Stevenson last year after plans to build on the site, an area known as Casa Porros popular with campervan owners, were first revealed.
