THE government and leaders in the food and beverages sector have signed an agreement which will see large reductions in added sugars, saturated fats and salt over the next three years. Minister of Health, Dolors Montserrat, said the object is to the reduce high rates of overweight and obesity in the Spanish population, especially amongst children. She stressed that excessive consumption of sugar or salt can lead to conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, strokes, heart attacks and cancers.
