THE HECHO Valley in the Pyrenees, to the west of the historic city of Jaca, is a verdant area which is well worth exploring.
It offers dozens of walks on waymarked trails, including the GR-11 trans-Pyreneen footpath which takes in the best of the mountains close to the French border. Although a long drive (750km one way from the south Costa Blanca), the reward of cool nights and fresh morning walking in the shade of towering peaks awaits.
