The Spanish consul in Washington D.C. has lost his job after mocking the regional accent of Andalucía’s president Susana Díaz on social media. Díaz raised the issue with Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis who also hails from Andalucía and who promptly relieved Enrique Sardá of his duties. Díaz praised the minister’s swift action, adding, “Proud to be from Andalucía and proud of my regional accent.”
