Health inspectors have carried out checks at a fish packing firm in Vera after 40 people fell ill from eating contaminated tuna.
According to the latest reports, 25 people in Andalucía – two each in Málaga and Seville, and 21 in Granada and Jaén – as well as 11 in Madrid, and four in the region of Murcia have so far fallen ill.
They were all struck down by scombroid poisoning, caused by eating tuna and other types of fish which have not been refrigerated properly.
Since the weekend, Junta de Andalucía health inspectors have been carrying out “exhaustive checks” at the headquarters of local firm Garciden, the source of the contamination.
