GANDIA’S dole office is so in demand that it has had to set up a screen showing appointment numbers visible from the street to allow those waiting outside to see when they are due in.
Even though the unemployment office moved to a brand-new building around five years ago, abandoning its dismal and cramped premises near the Beniopa dry riverbed, its capacity is still far exceeded every day as jobseekers rise in number.
And although renewing monthly dole pay entitlement – a requirement every quarter for those signed on – can now be carried out online rather than in person, the queues continue to grow.
