An intelligence agent arrested last week by the German security services on suspicion of plotting a terror attack has been identified as a 51-year-old man who was born in Almería.
Roque Nuñez, an operative for Germany’s security agency BfV since April, was arrested after he had allegedly been caught revealing sensitive information and making pro-Islamist statements on an internet chat room.
According to a report in German daily Die Welt, he had also been planning to bomb the agency’s Cologne headquarters, although this has not been officially confirmed.
The El Mundo newspaper this week revealed his identity saying Nuñez, who converted to Islam two years ago, had been born in Almería before moving with his parents and sister to Germany in the early 70s.
