Former Casarabonela mayor Sebastián Gómez went on trial last week facing a possible 15-year ban from public office or public employment on charges of irregularly contracting 25 workers in 2011 to perform a variety of municipal jobs. He denied wrongdoing, saying he had used a job pool from which the workers were selected based their economic need and their abilities.
