The way of life for the 465 goat-herders in Almería is more difficult than ever before thanks to the drop in the price of goat’s milk, their main source of income.

Now the regional government’s farming ministry has asked Madrid to intervene and ask Brussels for additional cash to help struggling farmers.

The EU’s common agricultural policy (CAP) currently estimates that goat-herders have a “negative profit” of €13,92 per animal. But the Junta de Andalucía says the true figure is €24,66.
