MIJAS’S string of shorefront walkways between local beaches has been awarded a ‘Blue Trail’ distinction, which recognises scenic and environmentally friendly routes that link beaches or marinas awarded quality-conferring blue flags by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
The network of mostly wooden pathways in Mijas is part of the wider Senda Litoral scheme by the Diputación de Málaga, which ultimately aims to connect the province’s entire coastline by linking existing beachfront promenades with such paths and walkways.
The Blue Trails (Senderos Azul) scheme, operated by the FEE’s Spanish affiliate ADEAC, this year awarded the distinction to 61 trails or paths in 18 provinces of Spain. In Málaga, Mijas was the only new listing, joining Manilva, which has held the title for several years.
