MORE than a third of Spanish children are at risk of poverty, according to a new report by Unicef. The country was ranked sixth-worst out of 41 countries in the EU and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) included in the study, Fairness for Children, which was released last Thursday.
It says that 36% of Spanish children live at risk of poverty or social exclusion and that inequality has grown more in Spain than in most other developed countries, with the income gap now greater than 62%.
The report, which measures levels of inequality in childhood based on income, education, health and life satisfaction, calls on Spain to raise the need for a national pact which includes “real commitments”.
