CRIMINALS are trying to obtain people’s bank details by sending fraudulent emails claiming to be from the tax office (Agencia Tributaria), warned the Guardia Civil.
Every year when the annual income tax declaration is due, the force makes an effort to give people advice how to prevent scams such as this and take precautions when submitting their data online.
This so-called ‘phishing’ scam was detected thanks to alerts passed on by the public to the Guardia’s ‘Colabora’ website (www.gdt.guardiacivil.es/webgdt/colabora.php).
Thousands of spam emails such as this are sent out telling recipients that they are due a tax rebate which they can claim via a link to a website that appears to be that of the tax office.
