Australia without our beloved monarchy?

On the eve of Australia Day, state and territory leaders have joined forces to call for an Australian head of state in a declaration plotted by the Australian Republican Movement.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnball, who is a founding member of ARM, stated that his commitment to Australia having an Australian head of state is undiminished, but does concede it should not happen until the end of Queen ElizabethĀ“s reign.

How magnanimous of him. He failed in 1999, when Australia had a referendum on the subject and was comfortably defeated.

Is it not strange that in September, when he was invested as Prime Minister, he swore becoming a republic was NOT on the cabinetĀ“s agenda.

Maybe, he is trying to achieve what Tony Blair failed to do.

What is peculiar is there has been no reaction from the British Government. This is unacceptable from my point of view.
